Addon domains versus Parked domains

Return to MEMBERS main page

We often get support requests asking if it is possible to have another domain name and site within an account, and before we go any further, the very simple answer is ‘YES’.

For users who are on the Raspberry Fizz package, since the move to the new servers, you now have your primary domain [the name of the domain you signed up with] and you also have 1 Addon Domain and 1 Parked Domain.

All other packages have unlimited use of Addon and Parked Domains.

So, let’s have look at what they mean exactly and how you go about setting them up.

ADDON DOMAINS

An addon domain is an additional domain name that that points to a subdirectory within your account. For example, you may own a domain name called mysecondomain.com and you want to be able to use it within your FreshlyPressed account.
This is very easy.
You simply go to your cPanel, click on Addon Domains in the Domains section and follow the instructions below. Once it is setup and you have redirected your nameservers for thisdomain name to our FreshlyPressed nameservers, this domain will be visible to all on the Net. The addon domain will look completely independent to the outside world with no means for anyone to know that this is running on an account under another site.

It is important to note that addon domains must be registered domain names that you own and must be configured to point to our name servers in order to work.

To add an addon domain to your web site:

1. Click on the ADDON DOMAINS button in your cPanel.

2. Enter the NEW DOMAIN NAME into the top text box. example: http://myseconddomain.com

3. The SUBDOMAIN/FTP USERNAME will automatically be named, i.e myseconddomain and it will also add the DOCUMENT ROOT, which is where you will find this site within your FTP, i.e. /public_html/mysecondomain.com

4. Add your PASSWORD as detailed within the next two text boxes. A word of advice here – if this site is going to be used by another user and you do not want them to access your other sites, you will need to enter a different password at this point. If however, this is simply just another domain you will control and use, then I would recommend using the same password as your primary domain. You can easily access this addon domain and any others you add, via your main FTP anyway.

5. That’s it. You now have another domain within your account that can be used in the same way as your primary domain name.

Once the nameservers have propagated, any files that you place in the /public_html/mysecondomain.com directory, will be visible to users via the Net.

PARKED DOMAINS

A Parked domain is a domain that you own, is registered and you do not want to do anything more with it, but use it to redirect to one of your other domains. It is most widely used in the instance of owning the various extensions for a domain, i.e. mydomain.com, mydomain.co.uk. mydomain.cc, mydomain.org and so on. You may have your site located on mydomain.com but you want any visitors to all the other domain extensions to end up seeing mydomain.com site only.

Again, as with an Addon domain, you need to make sure you point your nameservers for all of the mydomain.com/.org./cc/co.uk etc extensions to our FreshlyPressed nameservers. They will not work if you do not do this.

To add a parked domain to your web site:

1. Type in the name of the domain you would like to park

2. Click on the ADD DOMAIN button to the right

3. Your parked domain is now shown in the tables below.

4. Click on the REDIRECTS TO link for that parked domain and enter the domain you would like this parked domain to redirect to.

Note: You must own and have the nameservers pointed to the correct nameservers for this to work. If not, you will have errors. Contact us at support if you need any help.

2. Enter the NEW DOMAIN NAME into the top text box. example: http://myseconddomain.com
